NUNS & NUNNERIES

Generally speaking Buddha did not differentiate between caste, sex or origin in terms of accessibility to the path to spiritual liberation. This means that all beings have the opportunity to be happy.
Buddha Shakyamuni had no belief in converting people to Buddhism, yet he approved of providing supportive environment for people to practice in, if they were so inclined.

In the past, it was the Drukpa Lineage which had the most nuns and the largest nunnery in all of Tibet, and until ten years ago His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa had no intention of building another nunnery. Then he was approached by many Ladakh and Tibetan women who had taken a strong interest in becoming ordained.

In response to this His Holiness accepted them as his students, and he now admits that the nuns are doing better in the genuine practice of spirituality than any other type of practitioner.

It is His Holiness’s wish that the nunneries will give the nuns the chance to see the reality in this life amidst a peaceful environment. May this wish be fulfilled!
