HISTORICALLY
A community of more that 60,000 inhabitants (mostly Tibetan refugees) live at Dali, situated 5km from Darjeeling,
in extreme conditions.
There was no clinic no pharmacy and no dispensary. The government did send in medicines but these were not regularly given and so the chance of effective treatment was low.
To help the local population the Dali monastery constructed the clinic Gampopa with the help of a number of sponsors.
